About Alan Zheng
Who I am
I'm a software and platform engineer based in Eindhoven. I work where cloud infrastructure meets software that has to be provably correct — most recently as a Technical Consultant at Philips.
What I do
Cloud and security. I designed and deployed the first AWS WAF on a Philips platform, delivered as infrastructure-as-code: OWASP Top 10 rules, IP filtering, DDoS mitigation, and automated rule updates, with CloudWatch logging and alerting behind it.
Delivery in a regulated environment. I refactored the Health Analytics Engine and wrote the PDLM/QMS-compliant design documentation to go with it. I set up the BDD environment used in its verification and validation process and introduced it to the V&V team. I led the migration of a legacy field-study system to a modern platform and tightened its CI/CD pipelines for stable releases.
Automation and agentic AI. I build with Claude, MCP servers, GitHub Copilot and n8n — and I've driven adoption of those workflows among senior colleagues, not just used them myself. I write MCP servers, not just prompts.
Systems that have to keep working offline. During my Philips internship I extended BATDOK with IPFS-backed peer-to-peer sharing so medical records stay available in low-connectivity field environments, via an Android plugin bridging Kotlin and Go.
How I work
I care about the boring parts: documentation that survives an audit, pipelines that don't need babysitting, and infrastructure someone else can pick up without me. Most of my work has been in environments where "it works on my machine" isn't an acceptable answer.
Beyond the stack
I'm bilingual English/Mandarin and have spent four years as a part-time solution architect for a Chinese trading business — building out its WeCom platform and integrating digital tools with day-to-day operations. If your company works across the EU and China, I've done that translation in both directions. I studied ICT Software Engineering & Cybersecurity at Fontys and served as President of Proxy, its ICT study association, where I built the Microsoft 365 and Entra ID environment from scratch and managed a €150k+ budget.
